The Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties in Akwa Ibom Engr. Etido Inyang has said that work will commence at the site of Ibom Deep Seaport by 2017. He made this known while having an interaction with the Press recently in Uyo.
The commissioner said the Ibom Tropicana project which houses a 5 star hotel, mall, Cineplex and park would soon be realized as it was captured and approved in the 2016 budget, hinting that the current administration is poised at developing basic infrastructures as Akwa Ibom is getting set for the industrialization era.
Fielding questions on state of work on Ibom Deep Seaport as at today, he said, “I will like to keep it short for now. With the current pace of activities witnessed today, the consultants will finish their feasibility studies by the end of this year (2016) and by early next year (2017) we should have the operators coming in and by the end of 2017, construction should commence.”
This remark has put to end the speculations that Ibom Deep Seaport is another white elephant project and the commissioner re-emphasized that Ibom Deep Seaport remains a top-priority of the current administration.
On alleged reports of mismanagement of 48 billion naira levelled on the commissioner, from the funds allotted to the construction of Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene, Engr. Etido Inyang said the report has no iota of truth and wondered how 48 billion naira could be embezzled from a project that only 16 billion naira was spent.
The Commissioner said that the 4-points by Sheraton Hotel has been completed and what is now left is to fix the ICT gadgets and few other areas. By December, he said, the hotel should be put to use.
In conclusion, the Commissioner said “Governor Udom is the man for this time. I kind of look at a scenario where we have another type of Governor within this period, who does not have a clue on management of funds when there is no funds, where would we be today? Akwa Ibom is so blessed to have Udom Emmanuel as our Governor – a man who came up with a 5-point agenda Wealth Creation, Economic and Political Inclusion, Poverty Alleviation, Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion and Job Creation. All these have come to fruition within just one year in office!”
