Rt. Hon Onofiok Luke representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency under the PDP platform in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has emerged the new Speaker of the 6th assembly following the cancellation of the election that produced the sacked former Speaker, Rt Hon Aniekan Uko by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Luke was nominated by Nse Essien, member representing Onna State Constituency and seconded by Mark Esset, member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency.
The Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren, administered the oath of office on the new Speaker.
In his acceptance speech, Onofiok promised to work with the executive to bring development to the state and ensure that the dividends of democracy reached the grassroots.
The former speaker’s election was nullified a week ago by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja and a re-run ordered.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the sitting, the new speaker said that he ascribed his emergence to the will of God.
“We ascribe everything that happened today to God. Only God should take glory,” Luke said
The new speaker said he would operate an open door policy and continue from where the former speaker stopped as the House adjourned sittings to Tuesday, Dec. 22.
Congratulations the youngest Speaker in Akwa Ibom State.
