The Uyo-based outfit have incurred the wrath of Fifa over failure to fulfill financial obligations to the representative of its former loanee Meshack Chukwubuikem
Akwa United are facing three points deduction sanction from Fifa following its failure to pay off former player Meshack Chukwubuikem.
According to his representative Ojore Oka, the Promise Keepers owe Chukwubuikem a sum of 2.5 million naira during his season-long loan spell at the club in 2012.
In a letter, Fifa had ordered the Nigeria Football Federation to commence disciplinary proceedings against Akwa United for failing to fulfill its financial obligation and further declared final verdict.
However, the reigning Federation Cup winners were handed reprieve of 30 days to make right their wrongs to avoid suffering three points deduction in the upcoming Nigeria Professional Football League season.
“The club Akwa United are granted a final period of grace of 30 days as from notification of the present decision in which to settle its debt to the creditor, the players’ agent, Dr Ojore Oka,” the Fifa ruling read in part.
“If the payment is not made by this deadline, the creditor may demand in writing from the secretariat to the FIFA disciplinary committee that three (3) points be deducted from the debtor’s first game in the domestic league championship.
“Once the creditor has filed this request, the points will be deducted automatically without a further formal decision having to be taken by the FIFA disciplinary committee.
“The order to implement the points deducted will be issued on the association concerned by the secretariat to the FIFA disciplinary committee.
