By Aniekeme Finbarr

The elders of the People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom have expressed delight on the emergence of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on August 22, 2015, after the Elders of the party met in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom state.

In a communique signed and made available to journalists, the party congratulated His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on his election as President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and pledged the State’s support for the success of his administration, appreciating his inclusion of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the three-man committee set up by the President.

The party opined that in democracy, political parties should not be given priority, but the overall development and delivery of democracy dividends to the citizens should be paramount. Thus, a vote of confidence was passed on His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, and his administration for the bold steps he has taken to position the State on the path of continuous growth and prosperity.

The party elders reiterated that Akwa Ibom State is and remains a PDP stronghold yesterday, today and tomorrow, as evidenced in the pattern of voting for the past 16 years of our current democratic dispensation. Which is also evidenced in the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel, being a collective will of our people and therefore remains sacrosanct and inviolable, hence, the Party will continue to stand by him and his administration to ensure that he achieves each and every part of his vision as encapsulated in his 5-point agenda for the State.

The meeting also congratulated distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, (CON) on his election as the Senate Minority Leader, and all the elected members of the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly respectively for their successes in the elections.
